By-elections Monitors Submission in October-MEC

Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has said submission of names of monitors and observers of by-elections should be done by 8th October.

MEC Chief Elections Officer Sam Alufandika has said the by-elections will be conducted in Lilongwe South Constituency and Matenje Ward in Kasungu North West Constituency on 5th November.

Alfandika has requested all political parties, aspiring candidates and civil society organizations to submit the names to the respective MEC District Offices.

He says names for the polling and results counting should be submitted by 28th October.

“Each political party, candidate or civil society organization shall be allowed a maximum of two monitors or observers per centre at a time for voter registration,” Alfandika says

He adds that for polling every political party, independent candidate or civil society organisations shall be allowed up to two monitors per stream and up to four roving monitors per constituency or ward.

The Commission is urging stakeholders to identify literate monitors with good numeracy and comprehension skills and from the vicinity of the centres so that they can assist in identifying eligible registrants.
