CHRR Establishes Public Procurement Project

As a way of empowering women both in  rural and urban areas across the country, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) has  established a project called ‘public procurement and open contracting’.

CHRR Program Manager, Michael Kaiyatsa, revealed this during a meeting with the women as a way of conducting a research on the challenges they are facing in the public procurement.

Speaking with reporters, Kaiyatsa said the project aims at promoting women participation in public procurement.

He said women continue to face challenges when it comes to having access to contract due lack of capacity , resources, capital as well as political will to compete with men in and outside the country.

One of the participants, Alice Manyechembe hailed CHRR for the project saying will assist her to boost her pharmacy business.

Among the women attending the workshop include farmers and those who are running different businesses within Lilongwe.
