Court Dismisses Ras Chikomeni’s Application against MEC

High Court in Blantyre has dismissed an application in which Ras Chikomeni Chirwa was asking the court to obtain an injunction restricting Malawi Electoral Election (MEC) from banning him to contest in elections
In his ruling Presiding Judge Jack N’riva said Chikomeni has failed the test of vigilant as it took some days to seek court redress.
Judge N’riva said providing the injunction would have the potential of inconvenience with electoral calendar.
Reacting to the ruling, Director of Legal Services at MEC, Davies Matumika Banda said he is satisfied with the judgment as the case would jeopardize the whole calendar.
However, lawyer representing Chikomeni Jacklyn Chijozi said will consult her client and see the way forward.
