Elephants cause havoc in TA Katuli

As elephants from Namizimu forest are destroying crops and properties in Traditional Authority Katuli, MP for Mangochi East Constituency Abubakah M’baya has asked the council to recommend their translocation for the communities to be safe.

M’baya was speaking during an extra ordinary full council meeting where he said people in the constituency are residing in fear therefore they are not doing irrigation farming to feed their families.

“The council should translocate the elephants to other areas for lives of my people and their properties to be secured,” M’baya said.

Commenting Sultan Chowe said the elephants have indeed destroyed a lot of fields and lives of people are in danger.

However, he said the translocation of the elephants should follow necessary procedures.
