Fire guts Malawi Prison Headquarters

Fire has gutted down part of offices at Malawi prison headquarters in Zomba.

Confirming the development to radio Islam, public relations officer for Malawi prison inspector Julias Magombo said the fire started at around 3 a.m of Wednesday 11 July, 2018.

Magombo said the fire erupted in the administration office and spread to other offices including the operations department.

Magombo said the extent of the damage is yet to be established.

“Investigations have found that the fire was caused by electric fault,” said Magombo.

Lucky enough the section that houses the prisoners was not affected.
