K39 billion for Malawi COVID-19 urban cash intervention

Government has set aside K38.9 billion for 172, 000 households in COVID-19 urban cash intervention.

Speaking to the press Minister of population, planning and social welfare Clara Makungwa said the ministry will restart identification of beneficiaries due to anomalies.

Makungwa said the involvement of councilors in the exercise brought in a political element which the ministry has sorted out.

“Only trained officers will carry out the program which will be implemented in 6 months,” says Makungwa

Meanwhile, Makungwa has said 13 NGOs have contributed 1 billion kwacha for sensitization on COVID-19.

Makungwa asked the NGOs to distribute COVID-19 preventive materials to Malawians.

“I call upon other NGOs to join the fight and suspend their activities,” Makungwa adds

In his remarks chief executive officer for NGO Board Voice Mhone advised the NGOs to keep addressing issues concerning the pandemic.
