Malawi President urges employers to treat employees with human face in corona virus crisis
As Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating Labour Day President Mutharika has urged employers to treat their employers with human face in corona virus crisis.
In a national address Mutharika has urged employers and employees to maintain the spirit of engagement and listening to one another.
He said government will implement more measures to save jobs.
“I extend gratitude to all workers for their hard work to uplift the country and look after their families,” Mutharika says
Meanwhile, Malawi Congress of Trade Unions MCTU has asked employers to provide their employees necessary things amid COVID 19.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, MCTU president, Luther Mambala said this year’s Labor Day is quite different due to the pandemic hence asking employees to reduce its effects.
“It is sad to note that some employees are being forced to go on holiday or fired without remunerations,” Mambala says
The MCTU president has also asked government to introduce free tax band for employees and reduce pay as you earn tax among others.
This year’s theme: is sustainable jobs, income, and protection in the awake of COVID 19.
