Lack of Funds delays roads reconstruction: Minister

Ministry of Transport and Public works says it is failing to reconstruct permanently the roads which were devastated by floods in January because of delay of funds.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam Minister responsible Francis Kasaira said government through parliament and World Bank allocated money to his Ministry from the flood recovery plan.

However, he revealed that it received insufficient funds hence constructing temporary roads.

“The money was not enough for permanent construction therefore for them to be passable we thought of constructing them temporary with the hope that the full work will be carried out in future,” Kasaira said.

The transport minister has assured people in the affected areas that his ministry will start permanent road construction once it receives all required resources.
