Minibus drivers to protest arrest in Malawi

Minibus Owners Association of Malawi MOAM has warned minibus drivers against holding a strike.

Reports reaching radio Islam show that minibus drivers across the country are planning to demonstrate on Friday against the arrest of any minibus driver who carries passengers more than the recommended capacity.

“Minibus drivers should follow proper channels to address their grievances than demonstrations,” stressed MOAM General Secretary Coxry Kamange

In reaction to the protest Malawi police has ordered minibus drivers to observe traffic regulations in order to reduce road accidents.

Speaking to radio Islam National police spokesperson James Kadadxera said traffic police has put tough measures to ensure that passengers are safe on roads of Malawi.

“Let me emphasise that any minibus driver who violates the law will face the law,” said Kadadxera.
