Malawi institutes travelers’ screening

Ministry of health and population has instituted screening of all travelers to Malawi to prevent COVID-19 (Corona virus disease).

Secretary for health Dr Dan Namalika says any traveler with any sign or symptom of Covid-19 which are fever, cough and shortness of breath will be reviewed by medical practitioner a decision put them into a treatment facility or not will be made.

Dr Namalika says travelers without any symptom or sign of Covid-19 will be put on self-isolation and followed up by a health worker for 14 days five criteria.

“They are travelers from countries that have reported 700 or more confirmed cases of COVID-19, a country in European Union, a country that reports 100 or more new cases in 24 hours, an affected country in SADC and a group of 10 or more people traveling from an infected country,” explains Namalika

Over 200 travelers are under self isolation and quarantine in Malawi who are Malawians and citizens of other countries.
