Malawi Red Cross Society constructs VIP latrines
Communities in group village head man Sili in TA Chowe Mangochi have commended Malawi Red Cross Society for constructing a 5 million VIP latrine to girls at Nangwazi primary school.
Speaking to Radio Islam after receiving the infrastructure head teacher for the school Adilu Bula said the development is timely because 1057 pupils were using one toilet which was constructed under school improvement grants.
He said it was disrespectful to the pupils hence an increase of school dropout.
“The new toilet will help to improve the ratio of pupils to 1:138 for girls and 1: 49 for boys,” said Bula.
Commenting Community Resilience Manager for Malawi Red Cross Society Patrick Duncan Phiri said the project had been introduced after realizing that the school had only one toilet for both girls and boys.
“Government’s recommended ratio of toilets is 1 to 25 for boys and 1 to 10 for girls,” said Phiri
He promised that his organisation will continue rendering its support to the community to be healthy.
