MESN releases voter registration observatory report
Malawi electoral support Network MESN has embarked on observatory program on voter registration exercise in readiness for 2019 tripartite elections.
The report comes amidst concerns from many sectors of Malawi population that the first phase of the exercise should be repeated due to low turnout.
Speaking with radio Islam executive director of MESN Steve Duwa says objective of the program is to ensure that every eligible voter registers for next year’s polls.
Duwa has therefore recommended that Malawi electoral commission, political parties and electoral stakeholders should make sure that voter civic education is accessible to all Malawians.
“MEC should ensure that police and security agents are available at all voter registration centres,” reads the report
Duwa also recommends that gender equality should be encouraged in all recruitment processes and national registration bureau staff should be available in all voter registration centres.
