MUB Wants Tactile Ballot

Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB) has asked Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to introduce tactile ballot guide for visually impaired people to vote independently.

Education Officer for MUB, Stuart Chauluka, made the remarks during a sensitization meeting with Nsanje Civil Society OrganizationS on education of Children with disabilities.

Chauluka said “we introduced the guide in 2014 elections hence the need to train polling staff.”

A participant from Youth Coalition for Democracy Tiyamike Chochoma said the sensitization has opened their eyes since they understand violations of human rights.

She called upon various organizations to support MUB with resources so that it reaches out to many people for issues of discrimination against people with impairments to be eradicated.
