No extension to Voters’ Register Verification

Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has said there will be no extension to phase one of the voters’ register verification exercise.

Chief Elections Officer of MEC Sam Alufandika has made the statement in a press release made available to radio Islam.

Alufandika says the first phase covers all centres in Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Ntchisi, Dowa, Salima, Mchinji, Dedza districts and Kasungu Municipality.

“The first phase of voters register verification will end on Friday,” Alufandika says

He explains the registered voters who have moved into the areas covered under phase one are encouraged to process their transfers at the centre they wish to use for voting on 21st May 2019.

Alufandika adds “phase two of voters register verification exercise will run from December 18 to 22, 2018 and will cover Lilongwe, Ntcheu, Blantyre, Mwanza, Neno, Nsanje and Chikwawa districts and also Lilongwe and Blantyre Cities.”

The Commission has reminded all stakeholders that it is not conducting fresh voter registration for those that failed to do so during the voter registration period.
