Murder Deaths Rampant in Malawi

Different sectors of society have called on government to act swiftly on the murder deaths happening in the country.

The call by 10 Civil Society Organizations CSO’s, Security expert and Democratic Progressive Party comes in the wake of two people murdered within one week in Lilongwe.

Speaking on behalf of the CSO’s, Michel Kaiyatsa of Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation, CHRR says, the recurring of deaths is an indication of security lapse as well as loss of citizen trust in the police.

Kaiyatsa says failure to address and prevent these heinous crimes diminishes donor confidence and also declines the country’s economic growth.

In his remarks, Security expert Sharif Kaisi, has called upon government to take action and investigate why people are being murdered

Commenting on the matter Democratic Progressive Party DPP spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba says calls for strong cooperation among judiciary, police and other relevant authorities in fostering an environment where criminals are held accountable

Reacting to the calls Malawi Police Services Public relations officer for police Peter Kalaya they are meeting and interviewing relatives, workmates as well as friends of the deceased to gather information on the cases

Kalaya has called upon all to cooperate with it by availing themselves when needed and opening up in providing the information sought
