Muslims in Malawi start fasting in Ramadhan

Muslims in Malawi have today Sunday started fasting, marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan.

Meanwhile, several people, including Malawi President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, have extended best wishes to the Muslims for reaching the blessed month.

Dr Chakwera has urged Muslims to use the blessed month wisely by strengthening the faith and enrich devotion to peace.

Meanwhile, the national Chairman for Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), Sheikh Idrissah Muhammad has advised the Muslims to devote their time during the month in doing more charitable work and supplications.

Sheikh Muhammad appealed to Muslims in the country to provide more food items to people affected by cyclone Anna and Gombe.

“I urge all Muslims to pray for the devastated economy which has hit the world including Malawi,” Sheikh Muhammad

Ramadan is a month of fasting and abstaining from things considered to be impure for the mind and body.

The act of fasting allows the individual to understand the pain and suffering of millions around the world who live their lives in poverty and famine, leaving the participant feeling more grounded and grateful for all that Allah has given them.
