FOM appeal to government to prioritise Machinga in Flood Recovery Plan
Friends of Machinga (FOM) has appealed to government to priorities Machinga district in Flood Recovery Plan as one of the flooding prone district in the country.
The appeal was made on Saturday when the organization cheered flood victims in Group Village Headman Kaugule in the area of Traditional Authority Mposa in Machinga where they donated assorted items.
According to FOM Chairperson Sinoya Winesi, “it is sad to note that government is not paying much attention to Machinga district where a lot homeless people following the effects Tropical Storm ANA and Gombe.”
He asked Machinga District Council to ensure that there is a balance in allocation of support for flood victims saying most of the people are suffering the same.
Speaking on behalf of Machinga district Council Ishmael Chuma concurred with Winesi saying most of the people in the district were heavily affected by the two cyclones and are in dire need of the support.
“Women and children are the most vulnerable people who are suffering a lot during the disasters hence there is a need for special care and support,” Chuma
On his part Traditional Authority Mposa commended the organization for the gesture saying they have really shown that they are true sons and daughters of Machinga.
He said that the donation has come in time as the area is appealing for support from well-wishers to assist people affected by the storms.
FOM donated various assorted items including rice, sugar, soya and soap among others.
