Muslims urged to register for next year’s elections

Radio Islam listeners association has urged Muslims to register in order to vote in 2019 tripartite elections.

Vice president of the association Davie Daud Mpalume was speaking in Mangochi during the launch of Bwananyambi zone which was organized by Namwera Radio Islam listeners.

Mpalume said registering is very important as they will vote for people of their choice.

Meanwhile, the third phase of voter registration in Lilongwe has ended.

Speaking to Radio Islam chief Elections officer for Malawi Electoral Commission Sammy Alfandika says they are impressed with the registration exercise.

“Many people have registered and the commission will release actual figures of registered people in the region by the end of business today,” Alfandika says

Alfandika further says MEC is expected to roll out the fourth phase of registration in the Southern region on 16th August 2018.

He commended NGOs and other stakeholders for mobilizing citizens under the age of 18 to go and register.

Alfandika therefore urged all Malawians to register in the next phase in order to vote in 2019 tripartite elections.

Malawi will hold tripartite elections on 21 May, 2019 where eligible voters will elect president, Members of parliament and councillors.
