RHR introduces AIDS, TB prevention services in prisons

Reproductive Health Rights RHR is planning to reach out to inmates with HIV AIDS and TB prevention services.

Monitoring and evaluation officer for RHR Williot Lumbe says aim of the interventions is to complement government efforts towards TB HIV epidemic control in the country.

Lumbe said the interventions are expected to be rolled out in 23 prisons

“Prisoners have the right to access health services,” said Lumbe

Commenting on the matter chairperson of Zomba Civil society Network Newton Sindo said is delighted with the program because prisoners are always forgotten in such services.

“I was very happy when I heard that RHR has come up with the project which will help to prevent HIV AIDS and TB among prisoners,” Sindo said

Sindo then called on other organisations to consider the inmates.
