President professor Peter Mutharika has requested Judicial Service Commission to submit names of judges for the appointment of chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission
This follows Mutharika’s approval of the resignation of former chairperson of the commission Justice Dr Jane Ansah.
Presidential press secretary Mgeme Kalirani has said “the request was sent to the commission through office of president and cabinet on Tuesday 25th May.”
The country is expected to hold fresh presidential election on 23rd June after legal affairs committee of parliament accepted MEC’s proposal of a change of the poling date from 2nd July.
The election will be held after Supreme Court of appeal upheld the constitutional court nullification of last year’s polls.
