NICE assesses ward Councillors’ performance

National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust has cited poor working environment as the major contributing factor to minimal performance of Ward Councilors during their one year tenure of office.

Executive Director for NICE Trust, Ollen Mwalubunju, said this to Radio Islam 12 months after councilors were voted into office.

” Let me emphasise that ward councilors have not performed to people’s expectations as consultative forums which were working in the absence of the councilors are not comfortable to work with them,” stressed Mwalubunju.

He also mentioned that poor relationship between ward councilors and members of parliament has led to poor performance of the former.

Mwalubunju has however asked government to review the Local Government Act and provide full mandate for councilors to run affairs of the council.
