PAC holds emergency meeting on electoral reforms bill

Delegates at an emergency meeting by Public Affairs Committee PAC have agreed to hold demonstrations on Tuesday next week to force government to table electoral reforms bill in the 47th parliament meeting.

The meeting follows previous meetings PAC had with Minister of Justice Samuel Tembenu who assured the faith based organisation that he would bring the bill to cabinet.

However, leader of the house Kondwani Nankhumwa said the bill is not among the bills to be tabled in the current seating of parliament.

Speaking after a hot meeting held at Victoria Hotel in Blantyre PAC’s spokesperson father Peter Mulomole said the petition will be delivered to the state president and speaker of the national assembly.

“If government does not table the electoral reforms bill we will hold an all inclusive stakeholders meeting,” said Mulomole.

However, he was reluctant to disclose the venue of the demonstrations.
