PAC holds peace mediation talks

Political analyst has advised Public Affairs Committee PAC not to give up the mediation talks regardless of the challenges they face.

The advice has come following UTM and MCP decision not to continue taking part in the talks.

In an interview, Humphrey Mvula said mediation talks have always faced challenges regarding the interest of the parties involved.

“It took long for PAC to facilitate the dialogue hence bringing down the morale,” said Mvula

However, Thindwa while agreeing with Mvula said there is nothing much PAC can do because its role is just to facilitate and not enforce.

Thindwa said it’s not surprising, saying political leaders put their interest first instead of the national agenda.

Meanwhile, PAC has said all is set for the 14th December national prayers.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, PAC’s spokesperson, father Peter Mlomole said they have finalized everything with regards to the same.

“Most of the invited guests who include religious and political leaders have confirmed their availability,” Mlomole said

He added the prayers will bring together people with an aim of order to pray for the country’s peace and enhanced dialogue.

PAC also met president Mutharika and officials of Human Rights Defenders Coalition

The talks are being held as Malawians are waiting for a ruling on presidential elections case which is in the constitutional court

UTM and MCP parties applied to the court to nullify presidential elections votes and HRDC has been holding demonstrations to force chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission to resign.
