Parliament quizzes Malawi on Coronavirus

Ministry of health and population has said cannot ban people from China which is the country severely affected by the deadly Coronavirus because Malawi respects international protocols.

Minister responsible Jhappie Mhango has told parliamentary committee on health that the ministry cannot impose bans anyhow since the country depends on other countries.

Mhango said they have put in place various measures to prevent coronavirus and deal with it if confirmed in the country.

“Among others  at airports visitors are screened of the disease, the Ministry is advising Malawians to avoid going to China and other affected countries and Chinese embassy telling its people to suspend coming to Malawi,” Mhango explains

Commenting, Malawi Health Equity Network MEHN has asked Malawians to help government in surveillance to avoid Coronavirus outbreak.

MEHN executive director George Jobe has made the call in an interview with radio Islam a day after ministry of health presented a report on Malawi’s preparedness regarding corona virus outbreak.

“As civil society they are Hwaworking with government at different levels to ensure that the country is protected from the outbreak,” Jobe says

He hailed government for putting in place different measures to prevent and control the virus
