President Chakwera to trim powers after reviewing laws

State house says President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will act on his pledge of trimming his powers once he is done reviewing laws that affect ordinary Malawians.

Presidential spokesperson Anthony Kasunda said this during the state house press briefing.

Speaking, Kasunda said Dr Chakwera is concentrating on laws such as land and soon sedition laws which many Malawians complained about.

Kasunda also said president Chakwera deserves encouragement and praise on the way his government is dealing with corruption.

“Having so many cases exposed does not mean that corruption is on the rise but rather that it is being reported and acted upon by responsible offices,” Kasunda

Kasunda however was non-committal to respond on the recent remarks by Vice president on removing presidential immunity, referring the media to the office of the attorney general.

Earlier, state house Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni condemned the media for reporting that the president splashed a lot of money during the Zikomo awards.

Kampondeni said the awards were sponsored by private companies and not the presidency.

He also said that they will not respond to political questions.
