MEC to launch local government by-elections for three wards
Malawi Electoral commission has announced that it will launch local government by-elections for three wards on 9th July
Acting chief elections officer Harris Potani says the elections will be held in Wenya, Lupembe and Shire wards in Chitipa, Karonga and Balaka districts in August
According to Potani launch of the polls will take place on 9th July at Nkhumano and Nkhonde TDC as well as Lughali Primary school
He says all registered political parties, aspiring candidates, civil society organizations, traditional leaders and all stakeholders involved in elections should attend
“During the meeting the commission will release the electoral calendar and give opportunity to stakeholders to seek clarification on any Activity regarding the plans arranged for the conduct of the by-elections,” Mwafulirwa
Wenya, Lupembe and Shire wards fell vacant following the death of their councilors of UDF, AFORD and MCP in 2021 and 2022
