Storm destroys houses in Malawi

61 houses have been blown off by strong winds at Maoni village in the area of traditional authority Nazombe in Phalombe district.

A report by the district commissioner’s office indicates three houses were completely damaged and 58 are in an inhabitable state.

Phalombe district commissioner Gossam Mafuta said “there is need to assist the victims as they are sleeping in the cold.”

Natural disasters occur in Phalombe every year.

In 2017 many households were displaced by floods and in 1991 flash floods killed many people in
Phalombe district.
