Earthquakes strike Malawi

An earthquake has struck some parts of Malawi on Thursday morning disrupting businesses and causing fear in Malawians.

An official at Department of Geological survey Kondwani Dambula has confirmed the tremor to Radio Islam.

“We are assessing the affected areas and the extent of the damage,” said Dambula

According to people In Blantyre and Zomba the earthquakes struck at ten minutes to 11 and 5 minutes to twelve.

“Many people went out of their offices and houses in fear of their lives in Limbe,” they said.

In Nsanje district officials said it was a 5.8 magnitude tremor but Dambula says they are still assessing the disaster.

However, people in Mangochi felt some shaking.
