Villagers in Mangochi ask govt to fire chief

People from group village headman Mpumbe in the area of T/A Mponda Mangochi district have asked Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to replace their chief with another person from the royal family due to bad leadership.

One of the concerned villagers Saiti Kaliati said this today at the district commissioner’s office when they were presenting their petition on the matter.

“People from the village face many challenges and one of them is land grabbing as the chief says the land belongs to the royal family,” said Kaliati.

He said in October last year they reported the issue to the district commissioner Bester Mandele who held a discussion with T/A Mponda and their chief through which the latter was advised to change behavior.

Commenting on the development spokesperson for Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Mushawase Muwowo said will assist the concerned people once they receive the petition.

However, Muwowo said the matter must first be solved by the T/A.
