Zomba city council robbed

Armed robbers broke into Zomba city council offices stealing 4 laptops, cash amounting to over K165, 000, some files and cash books.

Confirming the development Zomba city council director of planning and development DPD, Fred Nankuyu said the incident happened from Tuesday night as the city was experiencing blackout and rain showers.

Nankuyu said “a group of robbers comprising eight people invaded into civic offices after tying two security guards who were on duty.”

He added that, the robbers broke into almost all the offices including cash office, mayor’s office and Chief Executive officer’s office.

“My office is conducting assessment to establish the actual extent of loss and promised to come up with a full report of what was stolen during the robbery,” Nankuyu said.

When contacted spokesperson of Zomba police Patricia Sipiliano asked for more time to investigate the matter.

The incident has happened as the city’s Mayor Melia Douglas and Chief Executive Officer Dyson Jangiya are in Lilongwe attending official duties.
