FUM asks government to main maize buying price

Farmers union of Malawi (FUM) has asked government to maintain the 310 kwacha maize buying price when purchasing the staple crop this year.

President of FUM Frighton Njolomole said this after Minister of Agriculture Kondwani Nankhumwa announced that the Ministry will start purchasing maize next month.

Njolomole welcomed government’s decision to buy the maize early as compared to previous years.

However, he has appealed to fellow farmers not sell the maize to vendors because their prices are very cheap.

During a field day event in Mangochi Nankhumwa said they were discussing farm gate prices.

Government increased the maize buying price from 250 kwacha for ADMARC to have maize to sell to people who were facing hunger.
