Government Deploys State Security to Salima Sugar Company Limited

Government has directed the deployment of state security to Salima Sugar Company Limited SSCL to protect the facility and personnel until final report of forensic audit is released

Secretary to president and Cabinet Colleen Zamba has made the directive after a preliminary report of the audit has been made available to shareholders of the company

Zamba has also ordered that all matters related to business of the company must be directed to executive chairman of SSCL

Government commissioned the audit to verify the share capital equity contribution, establish how proceeds from state guaranteed loans from CDH Investment Bank were utilized and ascertaining kwacha values as well as source of AUM Sugar and Allied Limited contribution

The shareholders of Salima Sugar Company which are Malawi government through greenbelt authority and AUM SAL jointly commissioned the forensic audit in April 2023

On 8th April the authority appointed the Malawian Wester Kossam as executive chairman replacing the Indian Shirieesh Betgiri who was arrested for fraudulently obtaining 300 million dollars loan in Dubai in the name of Salima Sugar Company
