Government, UNICEF In Back to School Campaign

Ministry of Education has launched back to school campaign for children affected by disasters where United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) donated school supplies to 800 learners.

Speaking during the launch at Kalima Primary School in Chikwawa minister education Madalitso Kambawuwa Wilima commended UNICEF and Royal Norwergian Embassy for the role they are playing in making sure that learners who were affected by Cyclone Freddy are back in school.

Wirima pleaded with all partners to provide support that is resilient to shocks that Malawi is experiencing including Cholera and cyclones.

In his remarks, Unicef Deputy Representative for Programmes, said they are targeting four districts which were affected by cyclone including Chikwawa, Nsanje, Phalombe and Mulanje.

He said total budget for this intervention is 400, 000 Dollars and 12, 000 learners from 15 schools in Chikwawa have benefited from the campaign with each school getting 800 units of school supplies.
