Inquiry Team Recommends Prosecution of Police Officer

Multi-sectoral Inquiry team on the alleged defilement of a 14 year old girl by a police officer in custody in Dowa has recommended that the suspect should be charged and prosecuted of the offense.

The team comprises Malawi Police Service, Malawi Human Rights Commission and Malawi Law Society.

In a statement signed by Public relations officer of Malawi police service senior superintendent James Kadadzera the team says all police officers who were involved in one way or the other in the detention of the young girl be dealt with in accordance with disciplinary code of conduct for police officers.

“All concerned stakeholders including police and medical personnel must in all sexual offences collect and preserve materials and samples that can be used for forensic DNA analysis,” recommends the team

Meanwhile, the Malawi police service has assured Malawians that it is committed to pursuing this defilement case to its logical conclusion.

The service has also said will ensure that human rights of all citizens are protected, respected and promoted in all circumstances.
