MBS must monitor oils to avoid heart disease: says expert

As the world is scheduled to commemorate this year’s world Heart Federation Assembly in Geneva one of the health activists in the country Maziko Matemba has said Malawi Bureau of Standards must be monitoring cooking oils that Malawians consume in order to get rid of heart disease.

Speaking to radio Islam ahead of the assembly Matemba said the Ministry of health must improve infrastructure and increase human resource that will be treating patients with heart disease.

” We applaud government for including the issue of non communicable diseases in Malawi health strategic plan but we ask it to increase experts,” said Matemba.

In a press statement released today World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti has underscored the importance of strengthening health services to tackle rheumatic heart disease which is also attacking children especially in developing countries.
