MESN proposes proper arrangement in elections auditors hiring

Malawi Electoral Support Network has stressed the need to put in place arrangement for hiring auditors in the electoral management.

MESN executive director Steve Duwa has said this in an interview with Radio Islam after ICAM fined BDO film that audited nullified presidential elections.

Duwa said the intention to bring in auditors by Malawi Electoral Commission was good but the unavailability of legal frame work on the use of them was one of the major things that contributed to irregularities cited by the constitutional court.

“The Commission should identify and deploy the auditors in good time in order to prevent the anomalies in fresh elections,” adds Duwa

In his remarks Internal Auditors president Ackson Banda said the relevance of auditors in the electoral management cannot be over emphasized as they also help in independence of the results.

However Banda said the auditors in the previous election did not meet people’s expectations as highlighted by constitutional court.
