MHG Communities Worried With Malata-Cement Subsidy Management

People in Machinga district have expressed disappointment with the way officials are handling the Malata and Cement Subsidy program in the district.

The people include beneficiaries, carpenters and builders who were awarded contracts in the area of Traditional Authorities Chiwalo, Nkula and Kapoloma.

Some of the carpenters and builders say have not received their money for the job they executed in the third phase in 2018.

According to information radio Islam has gathered, government owes 1.1 million kwacha to contractors.

“In the third phase of the project, 21 beneficiaries are yet to received 150 bags of cement in Traditional Authority Kapoloma, 14 from Traditional Authority Nkula have not received iron sheets and 60 iron sheets are yet to distributed in Traditional Authority Chiwalo,” they said

However, the source revealed that records at Machinga district council show that building materials were delivered to intended beneficiaries.

Commenting on this development, Machinga District commissioner, Bester Mandele confirmed that the project is facing challenges in the district.

Mandele attributed the problem to late delivery of materials to the district.

He urged councilors and traditional leaders to report to his office any concerns regarding the program for quick rectification and success of the project in the district.
