Mutharika condemns blood sucking rumours attacks

President Peter Mutharika has expressed shock with political leaders who are destroying lives of Malawians.

In a national address Tuesday night Mutharika said they are creating rumours of blood sucking to create panic and distress among people who are already going through painful times.

He said MCP leader Dr Lazarus Chakwera is encouraging violence targeting members of democratic progressive party in the central region.

“Reverend Chakwera has ordered some of his followers to catch and kill innocent people who are rumoured to be collecting National IDs,” said Mutharika

He  directed Acting Inspector General of Police to arrest every person who is involved in violence related to spreading false rumors of blood sucking and political violence.

Mutharika also directed Malawi Defence Force to work with police to intensify patrols to ensure that Malawi remains a country of peace and order.

The preside urged Malawians to remain united against primitive politics of violence and intimidation.

Responding, MCP spokesperson Moris Munthali said Mutharika is fabricating wrong information to Malawians to tarnish image of Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

Mutharika condoled the family of the person who died of COVID-19 and thanked health workers for their effort and Malawians who are following preventive measures.
