PAC Meets MEC Chair

Public Affairs Committee (PAC) says meeting with Chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission MEC was meant to discuss issues of national interest.

Leader of PAC mediation team, Archbishop Thomas Msusa, told the journalists after the meeting which was held at MEC head office.

Archbishop Msusa said the discussion dwelt much on electoral reforms and how Malawi can move forward in as far as elections are concerned.

Msusa however was non committal to reveal whether the issues to do with resignation of MEC Chair was included in the meeting insisting that “we have only discussed much on the future of the country.”

In her remarks MEC Chairperson, Justice Dr Jane Ansa said the discussions were cordial and fruitful.

Dr Ansa however refused to comment on whether she is going to swallow the pride and step down her position.

The meeting was initiated after opposition party leaders and Human Rights Defenders Coalition are calling for the resignation of the MEC Chair and other leaders of the commission for allegedly mismanaging the May 21 tripartite elections.
