Parliament defers budgets of some public institutions

National assembly has deferred budgets of some government institutions including of Ministry finance but passed over 10 budgets

Second deputy speaker of parliament Aisha Mambo Adams presided over the debate of the budgets such as president and cabinet, auditor general, director of public prosecution and Ministry of defense

Debate became hot during the debate of local government budget as some MPs complained that the Minister asked allowance from Nkhatabay district council which resulted into withdrawing from Constituency Development Fund.

Others asked for a clarification of insurance funds for chiefs and spoke against rescuing the Minister of finance in circumstances he failed to respond to the questions.

The minister of local government said “I will investigate the matter because it is irregular for the minister to ask for allowances at the council.”

Earlier speaker of national assembly Catherine Gotani Hara announced formation of an Adhoc committee which consists of 13 members of parliament

Gotani Hara said the committee comprises 4 DPP MPs, 3 MCP, 3 independents, 1 UDF, 1 PP and 1 UTM.

She also announced that the president Dr Lazarus Chakwera will go to parliament on Wednesday to answer questions
