Expecting mothers deliver outside Jalasi health centre

Two pregnant mothers delivered outside Jalasi health centre in Mangochi district.

Reacting to the incident National coordinator for White Ribbon Alliance Malawi Nancy Kamwendo criticised nurses at Jalasi health centre for denying pregnant mothers an access to maternity care.

Kamwendo said the move is disrespectful to women rights in the country.

“Mothers should be respected and access quality maternity care for the nation to promote safe motherhood,” stressed Kamwendo.

According to the petition sent to Mangochi district commissioner and district health officer, Laina Kaisi and adija Adam were denied to access maternity care a development which forced them to deliver outside the facility.

“No action was taken on the health workers and nurses at the facility are not giving proper reasons for refusing to provide maternity care to pregnant mothers,” complained concerned communities.

They further said the chiefs did not help the communities on the matter.

In his reaction public relations officer for Mangochi District hospital Mr Harold Kabuluzi failed to respond to the matter.

“I would answer after consulting the management,” Kabuluzi said.

Efforts to talk to Mangochi district commissioner Mosses chimphepo proved futile as he did not pick our call.
