Special Law Commission challenges ministry to speed public health bill

Special Law Commission has proposed to ministry of justice to speed up the drafting of public health bill so that the cabinet adopts it for presenting to national assembly.

Speaking during the Malawi Southern Africa Development Community Dialogue and African Union on Health Financing in Lilongwe, Deputy Chairperson for Special Law Commission Annie Phoya said they have completed their work regarding the bill hence urging ministry of health to advocate for speedy completion of the remaining processes.

In September the commission made a recommendation that people should be paying a small nominal fee to access services in public health facilities.

The commission has also recommend that public health programme must be protected saying  “the programmes like family planning and immunization will be free to everyone in order to avoid population growth as well as spreading of diseases in the country.”

In his remarks Senior Officer in charge of HIV and AIDS in SADC secretariat, Lamboly Kumboneki said health financing is very low comparing to national budget adding that health systems is mainly depending on donor funding
