STEKA Condemns Electoral Violence Against Children

STEP Kids Awareness (STEKA) has condemned electoral violence that is being perpetrated against children as Malawi is in the 2019 election period

In a press statement STEKA’s founder, God knows Maseko says they are saddened with the involvement of children in the protests across the country against the release of results of tripartite elections.

Maseko has condemned parents and guardians of children for failing to look after their children from dangers that come with elections and politics.

“STEKA lso condemns all political parties for inciting violence which most of the times children are the ones who suffer during uprising and demonstrations,” Maseko said

Maseko has appealed to all security agencies including Malawi Police service to put in place mechanisms that will protect children all over Malawi from being hurt or harmed in anyway.

He has cited non-operational of most schools since 20th May and the wounding of two children in demonstrations that turned violent in Mponela Dowa as some of the violations of children’s rights.

“Let me ask the nation to avoid losing children’s lives due to election as it was in 2004 where a number of children lost their lives,” said Maseko

STEKA has therefore asked everyone in the country to safeguard rights of children during and after elections.
