Vice President Hails Organisations Assisting Flood Survivors

Vice President, Everton Chimulirenji has commended organizations that have been assisting flood survivors since the March 2019 devastating floods.

He made the commendation when he visited Mwalija relocation site in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kasisi in Chikwawa.

Chimulirenji who is Minister responsible for Disaster Management Affairs said the organizations should be respected for upholding the right to life

He commended flood survivors for taking a bold decision to relocate to higher ground while calling on partners to exercise transparency and accountability in providing their support.

“Department of Disaster Management Affairs needs almost K270 billion towards recovery and reconstruction,” Chimulirenji said

Paramount Chief Lundu thanked government and other organizations that have come in to support the flood survivors.

Principal Secretary and Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs, Wilson Moleni said relocation of communities to a safe place is a clear demonstration of good relationship between the district council, traditional leaders and other local structures.
