Minneapolis passes law allowing Islamic call to prayer five times a day
Minneapolis City Council has unanimously voted to pass a law allowing the broadcast of Islamic call to prayer five times a day
Mosques were previously allowed to broadcast the adhan or Islamic call to prayer, three to four times a day to comply with city noise ordinances.
They could not broadcast the adhan in the early mornings or in the evenings though Muslims pray five times throughout the day.
Three Muslim City Council Members— Aisha Chughtai, Jamal Osman, and Jeremiah Ellison wrote the ordinance.
Mayor Jacob Frey has said will sign the ordinance into effect when it reaches his desk.
