Over 400, 000 Poor Malawians to Benefit in FARMSE Program
More than four hundred thousand households are expected to benefit from a program aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing resilience amongst vulnerable people nationwide.
Financial Access for Rural Markets and Smallholder Enterprises FARMSE program is being championed by Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development.
Speaking during a media orientation in Blantyre, FARMSE Program Coordinator Dixon Ngwende said through the initiative 15, 000 households which are benefiting from social cash transfer will graduate.
“The 7 year program which is targeting 45% women and 20% youths is being financed by Malawi government and International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD to the tune of 57, 700,000 dollars,” Ngwende said
Malawi’s Social Cash Transfer Program (SCTP) is an unconditional cash transfer program targeted at the ultra-poor and labour-constrained households of the country.
The main objectives of the program are to alleviate poverty, hunger, and starvation in the targeted households, as well as improving health, nutrition, and education conditions of the children living in those households.
