Islamic Organizations Donate To Disaster Victims

Asian Muslim Relief Aid AMRA has embarked on a 450 million kwacha program of assisting flood victims in Malawi.

This was revealed during the donation of relief items to over 400, 000 people in Mangochi district.

Speaking AMRA official Ahmad Suruka said the organisation is working closely with government and other Islamic organizations to assist all people who have been affected by heavy rains and floods.

Suruka therefore called upon organizations to assist victims of the disasters.

Speaking on behalf of his people, Group Village Headman Mbalame in the area of Traditional Authority Bwananyambi, commended AMRA for the timely donation adding the affected people lost their properties.

Meanwhile, Helping Hands for Relief and Development HHRD has distributed 1000 food hampers to families devastated by floods at Bangula evacuation centre in Nsanje.

Speaking after the distribution exercise HHRD southern Africa Regional manager Mussa Ibrahim said they were approached by Muslim Association of Malawi MAM to assist families affected by disasters in the country.

Ibrahim has assured the victims that his organization will continue to assist them with relief items till they return to their respective homes.

In his remarks MAM executive director Stort Watch said MAM extended the appeal to other International Islamic organizations in order to reduce the challenges that Malawians are facing.

Helping Hand for Relief and Development is an American based Islamic organization engaged in a number of charitable interventions through-out the world.

In a related development, Albaraka Chairty Trust has assisted 300 households affected by disasters in the area of senior chief Chimwala in Mangochi district.

The package contained plastic sheet rolls, 10 packets of soya pieces, maize flour and cups.

Speaking after the distribution exercise director of the organization Saeed Witness said his organization is very shocked with the disasters that left many families displaced, damaged properties and claimed lives.

Witness attributed the cause of the disasters to bad practices towards the environment hence calling on communities to protect and care for the environment.

He further pointed out that on the first phase of this initiative with support from Petroda limited the organization anticipates assisting 800 affected households in Mangochi, Balaka and Blantyre.

Commenting director of Madaris Qurania at Assalam complex Sheikh Abdullah Muhammad Ballah has appealed to other organizations to assist the affected families with food and other necessities.

Magret Arabi and Lilian Makumba from Chiwaula village senior chief chimwala applauded Al Balaka charity trust for the good gesture.

The two further asked for more support from well wishers and organizations.

United Arab Emirates Aid also donated relief items to over 700 households that were affected by heavy rains in Phalombe.

Speaking to Radio Islam after the donation at Traditional Authority Nazombe headquarters in the district, Director of Emirates Red Crescent Sharjah branch, Abdallah Obeid said his organization decided to help the affected people as one way of assisting government of Malawi in disaster management programs.

Obeid said the donation is the response from president of United Arab Emirates after Malawi called for international donors to assist people affected by floods in some parts of Malawi.

He said the organization has donated food items amounting to twenty thousand Dollars for affected people in traditional authority Nambe only.

Obeid has therefore promised to reach out to more affected people across the country

In his remarks Assistant District Disaster Risk Management Officer for Phalombe district council Davie Chibani said the donation has come at the right time as most of the affected people lost their food and other properties.

Chibani further said currently five thousand households are living in camps as their houses were damaged.
