Botswana president visits Malawi

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and President Mogwetsi Masisi of Botswana have expressed commitment to enhance several areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

The two presidents were speaking in Lilongwe during a press briefing where president Chakwera hosted Masisi.

According to the two presidents, Malawi and Botswana cooperation is in the areas of mining, tourism, agriculture, education following the bilateral resolution that was made in 2018.

Chakwera says is keen to see that resolution, maximized through revival of joint permanent commission and utilization of African Continental Free Trade Area that came into corporation sixty-six days ago.

The two presidents revealed that they are working on establishing bilateral missions which will enhance the already existing relations between the two countries.

“My country is working on Resuscitation of scholarship of Malawian citizens to study in Botswana,” Masisi

He has urged Malawi to support Botswana’s candidate Elias Magosi for the position of executive secretary of Southern African Development Community (SADC) saying his presence will help improve the continent.

This is the second visit of Masisi to the country following a similar visit last year.
