MEC receives nomination papers from candidates for by-elections

Receipt of nomination papers from candidates who want to contest in by-elections on 30th March is taking place today

According to Malawi Electoral commission the is being held in Karonga North West Constituency, Ntchisi North Constituency, Lilongwe Msinja South Constituency, Zomba Changalume Constituency, Liviridzi Ward in Balaka and Chitakale Ward in Mulanje

Chief Elections Officer Sam Alfandika says there will be no nomination of candidates in Nsanje Central, Nsanje North and Chikwawa East Constituencies because only those that contested in 2019 will be allowed to contest in these by-elections.

“Each candidate should be accompanied by a maximum of 10 supporters and these must adhere to all Covid-19 preventive measures such as putting on face masks, washing hands and observing physical distance,” Alfandika

The presentation of the nomination papers is taking place after registration and voter verification exercise for the 30th March by-elections ended on Sunday, 7th March, 2021.

The by-elections will take place in 7 constituencies and four wards following the death of MPs and councilors as well as nullification of results by court
