collect Accurate and Relevant data on GBV – EU

European Union has said there is need for accurate and relevant data to support the fight against sexual, gender based violence and harmful practices in the country.

The remarks were made by EU Ambassador to Malawi, Sandra Paesen during a National Stakeholders meeting on Data availability and Capacities for addressing violence against women and girls- Spotlight Initiative Program held in Lilongwe.

Paesen said through the Spotlight Initiative Program that a joint EU and UN initiated, they will be able to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

In her remarks, Principal Secretary for Gender, Children, Disability and social Welfare, Erica Maganga, said spotlight Initiative will in one way help in providing accessible and reliable gender based violence data and management systems.

Maganga said implementation of the National Policy and gender related laws have always been hampered by scarcity of reliable and accurate data to build evidence for programming.

She then asked National Statistical Office and other stakeholders to develop reliable data tools and build a strong Data Bank for on all forms of gender based violence.
